It's the most recent addition to the Umbro family, and focuses on ultimate control. The Geometra Pro football boots have had a great showing pre-season, and they've now received a colour update ahead of the kick-off for the 2011/12 season.
The success and popularity of the control category has made quite an impression on the boots market. Kick-started by the Nike CTR360, within the industry rival brands are all fighting over the moniker of 'best control boot'. The Geometra Pro is Umbro's latest offering, and packed with new features designed to improve your control of the ball, take a look at these latest versions and share your thoughts with the SoccerBible community online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
The new Umbro Geometra Pro soccer shoes arrive fully equipped with a high-grade kangaroo leather upper for a superb fit and feel for the ball. The soft leather upper acts as the foundation for new technological innovations designed to improve your ball control. And Umbro clearly know where their strengths lie, having utilised the same leather upper as featured on the legendary Speciali range.
One of the main features introduced for the new Umbro Geometra football boots is the ECZ – Energy Control Zone – which has been designed to absorb excess energy quicker for better ball control. The ECZ sits on the instep of the Geometra Pro and is made up of high-density foam.
Another key feature is the swerve coated 'grip surface' visible on the inside toe-area of the Umbro Geometra Pro. This material is technically applied to the Geometra vamp to allow an improved ball feel in wet and dry conditions whilst offering better distribution abilities.
Sitting next to the ECZ are new dampening pads positioned towards the inside rear of the boot. Labelled as 'Medial Pads', the technically surfaced pads contain memory foam for enhanced ball control. The combination of the ECZ and Medial Pads draw clear design inspirations from Nike's winning formula used in the CTR360 boots.
The sole-plate used on the new Umbro Geometra Pro looks to have also drawn some CTR360 inspiration, and has been designed to enhance ball trap control with its carefully considered stud positions. Without compromising traction, stability or durability, the Umbro Geometra Pro outsole effectively enhances ball control, with the sharper heel studs combining to help lock down the planted foot while the fore studs offer control of the ball.
Visually the new Umbro Geometra Pro football boots offer a streamlined look with clean design features. The soft k-leather silver upper with yellow detailing is quite a unique look. We've already seen the likes of Jordan Henderson sporting the Geometra's in pre-season, so it'll be interesting to see the player uptake with this new colourway.
The new Silver/Yellow Umbro Geometra Pro football boots are expected to be available from late July/early August, and a real plus point for the Geometra's is their price, considerably lower than rival boots in the same category, as they are set around £90 GBP / $150 USD / €100 EURO.
