Tottenham Hotspur launched their new 2013/14 home and away kits this week and to showcase their shirts Under Armour invited us to the swanky Village Underground venue in Shoreditch, London for the official unveiling. Under Armour are quickly becoming the new cool kids on the Premier League block and the brand upped their game again with the launch of the latest Spurs kits.
As the tube pulled into Shoreditch High Street station you couldn't miss the giant Under Armour billboard outside the venue, a huge black canvas with #IWILL plastered boldly in the middle, a new campaign which follows on a decade later from the 'Protect This House' campaign. #IWILL is designed to resonate with every athlete and team, regardless of who they are and where they train, and spotlight their determination and ‘Will’ to become the best they can be.
The intimate venue was scattered with neon lights and moving Spurs logo spotlights as tension built ahead of the reveal. Under Armour put on a top show to present Spurs' new kits; smoke machines, strobe lights, an awesome set centred around their #IWILL campaign and a Spurs quartet of captain Michael Dawson, Brad Friedel, Jermain Defoe and Gareth Bale greeting the eagerly awaiting media presence.
The Spurs players were welcomed on stage in dramatic fashion. Bursting through the set wall and emerging through the smoke and into the light appeared skipper Michael Dawson wearing the new home kit, followed by Brad Friedel, Gareth Bale and Jermain Defoe kitted up in the new away strip, each player entering through each letter of the word 'Will'.
Spurs fans will be relieved to see Bale at the launch, although it's not concrete evidence that he's staying at White Hart Lane, it is reassuring and imagine the media frenzy if he wasn't on show. Taking time out from their pre-season schedule the players then sat down for a chat about the new kits and the importance of Under Armour's innovative technology.
The new Spurs home kit features the famous white shirt with blue and white taping around the neck, blue shorts and blue socks paying tribute to the kits worn during the club's successful 1960's period and the darkest blue Spurs have ever worn. The away kit is wrapped from head-to-toe in an energetic bright blue with subtle graphics placed onto the material and the keeper kits are bright orange and green.
After their impressive debut kits last season Under Armour have once again delivered a unique and technically advanced set of strips. Under Armour are the kings of producing clothing which maximises the performance of their athletes and the Tottenham kit is no different. Each kit weighs a super light 3.8 ounces and are the quickest drying kits ever produced by the brand. Embedded with the brand's trademark HeatGear technology, players will remain cool and light in even the harshest conditions.
The technical innovations within the home and away kits are also evident in the training range. In the warm months, Spurs will feature HeatGear shortsleeve training t-shirts and shorts. As the season progresses, the players will be able to sport a mid-layer top constructed in Under Armour’s Charged Cotton STORM technology to keep players dry. For the deep winter months the training range will move onto Under Armour ColdGear fabrications to keep players warm.
