Back in December last year PUMA nailed the announcement that they'd signed Mario Balotelli. PUMA had beaten off competition to land one of football's most charismatic personalities and announced the deal by lacing up the Milan striker in a custom version of their new evoPOWER silo, wrapped up in Balotelli's own newspaper headlines.
The original versions featured a black block with the words 'Why always PUMA?' on the side of the boot but now PUMA have peeled away that block to reveal a picture of the man himself wearing that famous t-shirt in the Manchester derby. The boys and girls at PUMA have kindly sent us our own pair, 1 of just 6 worldwide, for us to stick through the studio and give you a closer look.
Signed fittingly by Balotelli in gold ink, the evoPOWER Stampa is up there with the very best of our collectors editions and is a worthy addition to our wall of fame at SBHQ. The original versions, worn by Balotelli and released on general sale were snapped up in a matter of hours by avid collectors to demonstrate the success of the launch and the impact of signing a player of Balotelli's stature.
You always have to expect the unexpected with PUMA, the brand have a reputation for outrageous designs and crazy campaigns and the style in which they captured Balotelli has to be one of their biggest moves yet. The AC Milan striker’s contract with Nike was up and after much speculation PUMA swooped in, in spectacular style.
Nice one PUMA, cheers.
