PUMA have launched a brilliantly well worked video playing on Uruguay's history with Brazil to tease their new World Cup shirt. After qualifying for the 2014 finals the Phantom of 50 or "El Fantasma del 50" visited the host country to remind the locals of Uruguay's 1950 World Cup success at the Maracana.
El Fantasma del 50 walked the streets of Brazil scaring Brazilians by jumping out on unsuspecting victims as Uruguay try to strike fear into their South American rivals. The story dates back to the 1950 World Final at the famous Maracana, Brazil were 1-0 up in front of a huge home following and nailed on to lift their first ever World Cup but Uruguay hit back with two quick fire goals to become World Champions for the second time.
The Uruguayans are always keen to remind the Brazilians of that famous day and you can expect to hear the story a lot more as Uruguay look to repeat their heroics next summer. Before their second play off leg with Jordan, Uruguay played up the 1950 victory by honouring the only remaining member of the squad, 86 year old Alcides Ghiggia, who scored the winning goal in the final. As you can imagine, he's a bit of legend.
The PUMA video, which is bound to rattle a few cages in Brazil, ends by showing a glimpse of the new Uruguay home shirt. Stay tuned to SoccerBible for the full reveal of the new kit which is expected to be revealed shortly...
