Nowadays the PUMA King might be a distant relative to the classic model but after a statement launch, their most iconic silo returns for 2013 in true King style. They're hard to come by nowadays but if you find yourself hankering for a 'real' black boot, then you won't find many better than these.
The King's first colour drop of 2013 is a special one. They're a boot that would look out of place in today's game, but for all the right reasons! Fusing lightweight innovation with old-school design, PUMA bring us the new super-stealth Black/Silver King colourway.
After just two editions to their new King line, PUMA have wasted little time in stripping the aesthetics right back. PUMA know better than most about how to style a black boot. Once again, their design team have delivered. Black boots aren't dead yet.
The PUMA King strips everything back to a lightweight boot, weighing in at just over the 200g mark. The upper is constructed using a Japanese premium microfibre material with leather like properties. The central lacing combines with a new performance tongue. The short, perforated 3D tongue ensures a closer touch and perfect fit.
PUMA continue with their AptoLast technology system which helps the boot conform to the natural shape of the foot, providing a snug comfortable fit which improves over time as the boot fully shapes itself to the foot. Don't expect a long break-in period with this boot.
The bespoke sole unit used on the PUMA King features optimum lightweight technology with a pebax and nylon outsole. A newly engineered stud configuration offers better grip and manoeuvrability while a more refined external heel counted provides the required level of protection and stability.
The new PUMA King has already attracted a strong player uptake. We're yet to see how much professional player support PUMA will give this new colourway, but with players including Yaya Toure, Mikel Arteta, Michael Carrick and Nemanja Vidic on their books, we're sure they won't be short of takers!
The new Black/Silver colourway has been launched in the standard King models. They are available to pre-order now from selected online stockists and will retail worldwide for around £125 GBP / €150 EURO / $150 USD.
