They arrive back with a point to prove as PUMA bring new life to their most iconic model. To be worn by midfield duo Yaya Touré and Mikel Arteta, PUMA are stepping up their game with the 2013 King – this time it's all about control. A new King for a new breed of midfielder's. Take a look and let us know what you think!
It's the challenge continually faced by PUMA's design team – how to re-engineer such a classic model for the modern game. After months of work and testing, PUMA finally have their answer. The classic King style has served it's time as PUMA bring a futuristic design to the table. It's a fresh look that's unrecognisable to the previous King Finale model!
The PUMA King SL strips everything back to a boot that weighs a super-slender 171g – a seriously lightweight boot! The upper is constructed using a Japanese premium microfibre material with leather like properties. The central lacing combines with a new performance tongue. The short, perforated 3D tongue ensures a closer touch and perfect fit.
For the standard model, PUMA stay true to everyone’s favourite aspect of the King. The boots upper, made from a super-soft premium leather, adapts to the natural curves of the foot for a glove-like fit. The Kings reputation has never wavered when it comes to high quality leather - you'll struggle to find a finer leather boot in the game!
The lightweight Pebax outsole uses a mix of conical and traction studs to ensure a good balance between flexibility, grip and manoeuvrability, while the external heel counter with classic KING branding gives improved heel fit and stability – perfect for protecting you from those crunching tackles on the heel.
Puma continue with their AptoLast technology system which helps the boot conform to the natural shape of the foot, providing a snug comfortable fit which improves over time as the boot fully shapes itself to the foot. Don't expect a long break-in period with this boot.
The bespoke sole unit used on the PUMA King SL features optimum lightweight technology with a pebax and nylon outsole. A newly engineered stud configuration offers better grip and manoeuvrability while a more refined external heel counted provides the required level of protection and stability.
Speaking about the new PUMA King, Yaya Touré said: “I’ve been working closely with PUMA to help develop the new King boot and I’m really pleased with the result. The boot feels great, the design is simple and modern and the performance technologies in the boot help me to optimise my contact with the ball on pitch.
The new PUMA King will be worn on pitch from the 1st December and is available to pre-order at selected online stockists now. Let us know what you think of the Kings latest look! Join the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
