No boot fan can deny the esteem for which the Puma King football boots are held within the game. As a boot range, the King has been around for over 40 years and been worn by some of the best players of all time. Now Puma have released this Mexico Finale version, and you can check out the SoccerBible's full and exclusive pictures...
When you think of Puma King, it conjures up images of Diego Maradona, Pele, Eusebio and Johan Cruyff, and even if you're a modern day boot fan obsessed with speed boots, you can't forget the boot heritage and the benchmark the King has set, and these exclusive Mexico Finale boots are a great testament to the range.
These modern day versions are scarily close to the original 1986 Puma King boot worn by the World Cup winning Diego Maradona, and if you love your retro boots you have to agree this Mexico Finale is a great looking boot, with the added bonus that it can be worn in a modern competitive game.
Puma's football boots heritage is such that since 1948 when Puma supplied boots to the German national team for the first international game after World War 2, Puma boots have read like a who's who of World Cup soccer. Most notably, Didi of Brazil in 1958, Eusebio wearing the first Puma King prototype in 1966, Cruyff in 1974, Kempes in 1978, Maradona in 1982 and 1986 and Gascoigne in 1990.
The original Puma King Mexico Finale football boots boasted an upper of tear-resistant kangaroo leather with two-fold, attached heel cap. Double padded tongue, Flex lacing, internal and external padding of the instep, complimented a Flex zone around the toes which featured soft internal padding.
The 1986 Mexico Finale soccer shoes featured a three coloured flexible multi-studded sole with replaceable studs. However, the updated version is a fixed firm ground sole with a classic all white sole-plate.
The Puma Mexico Finale football boots feature a soft and comfortable kangaroo leather upper, uniquely stitched to retain shape and performance over the boots life span.
There's no escaping the fact that this Mexico Finale boot provided the inspiration for the current King Finale, the most recent incarnation of the range. But we love that Puma have taken the bold step to release this version, and give fans the opportunity to choose the original or the modern version.
As you can see from our photography, the quality and construction of the boot is there to see. And the only deviation from the original is the slight modification to the outsole to ensure the boot can perform in the modern game.
The Puma Mexico Finale football boots are expected to retail for around £125 GBP / $200 USD / €140 EURO / ¥16300 JPY when they hit selected retailers from April 1st, although they are available to pre-order now.
There's sure to be plenty of debate about the release of the Mexico Finale so have your say and join the conversations with the SoccerBible community online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
