Following in the footsteps of Real Madrid and Bayern Munich both MLS clubs were wearing jerseys made from recycled ocean plastic in their league fixture at the weekend as a brace from Cyle Larin was enough to beat a solitary strike from NYCFC's David Villa. Each shirt is made from 28 recycled bottles taken from the Indian Ocean. So, to kit up both squads would have resulted in a total of over 600 bottles being plucked out of the blue stuff. An immensely important message being spread by the power of football.
New York City and Orlando were joined by LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders in the special edition Parley shirts but it was Yankee Stadium where we found ourselves on Sunday to take a first look at the one-off kits. Despite the rather surprising clash of colours, the predominantly grey kits looked clean on pitch, while keeping things clean off it. Following the game, both clubs will auction off the jerseys to raise more funds to go towards the 'Parley for the Oceans' initiative.
