A second gear England performance claimed a 2-0 win over Malta on Saturday evening thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge and Dele Alli. Wembley provided the stage for England's Nike players to switch into the new Floodlights Pack and Marcus Rashford came off the bench wearing the Mercurial Superfly V colourway, which was probably one of the brightest parts of the game. Still, three points is three points.
Danny Rose joined Rashford in the new Nike Floodlights Pack as he also came off the bench in the latest Swoosh offering. The Spurs full back was laced up in the Magista Obra II, drenched in bright "Rio Teal" with Volt finishings. Arguably the strongest on-pitch presence fromm the new collection, the vibrant update will remain on the feet of Nike's contracted Magista players up until Winter.
It's going to be strange to watch an Italy team without Gigi Buffon when he does finally hang up his gloves. That day doesn't look like it's coming up any time soon though, as the Juve stopper helped his side to a 1-1 draw with Spain and a 3-2 win over Macedonia to keep on track to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. Buffon used the game against Spain to switch into the Autumn update of the PUMA evoPOWER 1.3.
Antoine Griezmann also switched into a new PUMA update this week by sporting the latest colourway of the evoSPEED SL II. Dropping in a slightly underwhelming but simplistic combination of white and "Shocking Orange" the evoSPEED update is a stripped back alternative from the typically vibrant and experimental Tricks designs that PUMA usually lace top their pro players in. Nothing wrong with mixing things up and Griezmann looks happy enough.
Sung Hyang Sim took things back this week by opting for the most traditional Predator colourway to land on the Predator Instinct. Whipped up in classic black, red and white, the final ever silo of the famed Predator series was a throwback to the glory years of Mania, Absolute and Powerswerve. A great choice of weapons from the North Korean. You don't hear that often.
Are this glory years returning? No, it ain't a Predator but it's as close as you're gonna get when it comes to visuals on a modern adidas football boot. This here is the next-generation of the adidas ACE series, worn by Paraguay international Jorge Benitez and if that's the launch colourway then adidas are set to make a lot of Predator fans very happy indeed. Updates all over, the ACE 17.1 is nailed on to be one of the hottest boots of the new year. Roll on 2017.
Japan made another stride towards World Cup Qualification with a late 2-1 win over Iraq last week. AC Milan midfielder Keisuke Honda played his part in the win wearing the latest Mizuno Wave Ignitus IV colourway, a smart match-up with the ever-stylish Japanese home strip. Honda has been flying the Mizuno flag throughout his impressive career and Mizuno will be hoping on Japan securing qualification to ensure their main man is in the spotlight in Russia.
For those of you with an irrational fear of low-hanging-scruffy socks look away now. Serial offender Aleksandr Hleb was in action this week as Belarus lost 4-1 to the Netherlands. Maybe he's allergic to tape and sock ties, maybe he's just not bothered that he's practically tripping over his shin pads? Either way, we bet his bedroom is a mess. That said, he does reclaim our respect by turning out in the PUMA v1.06, straight out of 2006. Ironically the year Hleb last combed his hair and ironed his clothes. Pull your socks up man, literally. Jack Grealish, you can stop too.
The Nike Floodlights Pack was rolled out worldwide this week. All four silos were a dominant sight on the international scene and perhaps the most eye-catching combination was the Netherlands' Rick Karsdorp wearing the Hypervenom Phantom II. The "Crimson/Vivid Purple" colourway creating a flowing complement to the Dutch home strip. We're noticing more and more professionals embracing the Dynamic Fit Collars, especially the younger generation of players.
Yasmani Duk brought the custom game to the latest international fixtures by slipping into (and out of, by the looks of it) a customised flashy rendition of the adidas F50 adizero. The Bolivian was getting to grips with Neymar in a gold speckled colourway that took the attention away from Neymar's disguised Mercurial Vapor XI boots that were wrapped in the Hypervenom graphics of the new Nike Floodlights Pack.
Another Bolivian to catch our eye this week was Leonal Morales. Although we're not big fans of the baggy green training tracksuits we've got a lot of time for the Nike Camo Pack. Suited up in a camouflaged military-esque design, the Nike Camo Pack was inspired by militaries from all over the world, with a desert print on the Hypervenom and a jungle terrain print on Morales' Mercurial Superfly IV. Stealthy.
