That's your lot for top domestic football for a couple of weeks. Just as the new season gets into gear it's rudely interrupted by an international break. We'll put that to one side for the moment, and look back on a busy week of football to pick out our selection of the boots on show.

Mesut Özil (Arsenal) adidas ACE 16+ Purecontrol

Can we take a minute to appreciate how good the Speed of Light adidas ACE 16+ Purecontrol is with the 2016/17 Arsenal third kit? Mesut Özil provided the seamless look as Arsenal beat Watford 3-1 at Vicarage Road on Saturday. Three choices of strips and somehow there was still a bit of a kit clash as Arsenal's new third colours blended with the yellow of their hosts. If only the Gunners had a different coloured home shirt, like red or something.

Sergio Ramos (Real Madrid) Nike Tiempo Legend 6

Is Sergio Ramos on the verge of cutting ties with Nike? The Spanish centre back has represented the Swoosh through the majority of his successes at club and international level but gave his Tiempos the blackout treatment at the weekend as Real Madrid beat Celta Vigo 2-1 at the Bernabeu. For such a long term partnership it would appear strange for Ramos to go to extreme levels if another Nike contracted was ready to be signed. He's put himself in the shop window.

Michail Antonio (West Ham) Umbro Velocita II

Alan Shearer, Michael Owen, John Terry and now Michail Antonio. The West Ham all-rounder will be representing Umbro in the England squad this week after a string of impressive performances all over the park earned him a call up to Sam Allardyce's squad for the World Cup qualifier against Slovakia on Sunday. James Milner Mk II?

Cristiano (Kashiwa Reysol) Nike Mercurial Superfly IV

When your name is Cristiano you sort of have to wear the same boot as the big man himself. The Real Madrid forward's namesake laced up in a custom pair of Mercurial Superfly IV boots for Kashiwa Reysol this week – a NikeiD edition with a blast of volt on the upper, black Swooshes and white laces. Messy but tidy at the same time. Good effort.

Robert Lewandowski (Bayern Munich) Nike Hypervenom II

A hat trick and a 6-0 win. That's how Robert Lewandowski kicked off his Bundesliga season as Bayern Munich hammered Werder Bremen to rise to the top of the table from day one, and you'd be brave to bet against them remaining there until May. The Polish front man was laced up in his Nike 'Elite Pack' Hypervenom Phantom II boots and wasted no time justifying his place in that 'Elite' squad. That's two hat tricks in eight days, after Bayern battered 5-0 Carl Zeiss Jena in the cup. Poor Carl.

Michael Arroyo (America) Nike Mercurial Superfly Heritage iD

When Nike launched the Mercurial Superfly Heritage iD series in May this year we were expecting the collection to be snapped up by collectors but many of the boots have made their way onto the professional scene. None more so than the 1998 R9 colourway, one of the most decorated and distinctive football boots of all time. Michael Arroyo, amongst a number of players to pay tribute to the the Brazilian legend.

Yohan Cabaye (Crystal Palace) adidas Copa Mundial

Yohan Cabaye's contract with Nike looks to have expired at the end of the European Championships. The French midfielder has returned to domestic football without his Tiempo Legend 6 boots and instead the Crystal Palace man has been wearing a complete blackout pair of adidas Copa Mundials. With all the innovation that's gone into football footwear in the past 20 years, its still heartwarming to see the famous Copa getting stuck in at the very top level of English football.

Charlie Colkett (Chelsea) adidas

Charlie Colkett looks to have then things to the next level this week by wearing an unreleased adidas silo that is currently top secret from the Three Stripes. With a reptile print and re-placed stripes on the side of the boot, you'll have to wait a little while longer to take a complete look at the Chelsea youngster's wheels. For the time being, they're classified.

Steven Gerrard (LA Galaxy) adidas ACE 16.1 Primeknit

Steven Gerrard has made a few slight modifications to his adidas ACE 16.1 Primeknit boots, to keep them as simple as possible. Gerrard, a big fan of the adidas Predator has stripped his ACE boots right back with a black Primeknit sock and single coloured stripes for a colourway that sits in-line with his LA Galaxy home kit. At his age, you know what you like. And when you're that good, you get what you like.

Romelu Lukaku (Everton) adidas X 16.1

Romelu Lukaku is another player whose boot contract is up in the air. The Everton forward, who has been with Nike for the past few seasons slipped into the adidas X 16.1 as his side beat League Two Yeovil in the EFL Cup last week, but switched back into the Nike Hypervenom II when Stoke City listed Goodison Park at the weekend. Another big high-profile player up for grabs it would seem.
