The football season is back in full flow across Europe as our weekends, Tuesday & Wednesday nights and the occasional Thursday are now thankfully sorted. Normal service is resumed. Picking up where we left off last week here's our pick of the kicks from the last seven days of action.
Adnan Januzaj's boot saga continued at Old Trafford on Saturday lunchtime. New Balance have still yet to lure the United forward into their Furon silo with Januzaj turning out against Newcastle in a black-out version of the X 15.1 after previously wearing a disguised Vapor X to kick off the season. Chances are that New Balance are preparing a bespoke pair for their key man but they'll want to get him branded up asap.
Not many players have the audacity to wear a boot handed out exclusively to one of the world's greatest players but Gyasi Zardes did at the weekend. Laced up in the adidas MESSI 15.1 the LA Galaxy man had blacked out the entire boot, perhaps he wasn't keen on the colourway or perhaps at the last minute he just decided he couldn't pull it off, either way a blacked out edition would look top notch.
Another player sporting blacked out footwear this week was Chelsea Ladies' defender Gilly Flaherty in a stealth like edition of the adidas Nitrocharge 1.0. The complete black-out vibe is usually reserved for prototype versions of the boot when a brand is hiding the final design but the old-school feel is always widely welcomed upon release.
adidas inverted the "Solar Blue" colourway of the Tribal Pack 11Pro in July 2014 to produce a low-key, predominantly black version of the boot but that wasn't enough for Lazio's Santiago Gentiletti who coloured in the famous three stripes to leave just the Tribal Pack graphics on the heel for a design that forces a second look.
Hellas Verona got the Serie A campaign off to a solid start on Saturday with a 1-1 draw at home to Roma. Bosko Jankovic got his side's opening goal of the season wearing the Nike Mercurial Vapor IX 'Fast Forward' '06 edition. Launched in the run up to the 2014 World Cup Nike released a number of famous Vapors inspired by World Cups of old.
Real Madrid new boy Mateo Kovacic made his La Liga debut on Sunday night as he was introduced as a second half substitute against Gijon. Another Mercurial player in the Real Madrid squad Kovacic opted for the 'Lightning Storm' Vapor X but failed to break down a stubborn Gijon defence in a 0-0 draw with the La Liga newcomers.
Pedro enjoyed a more successful debut that Kovacic by scoring and assisting in his first Chelsea run out against West Brom. The former Barcelona man opened the scoring just twenty minutes into his Premier League career wearing the 'Lightning Storm' Nike Hypervenom Phinish II as he helped his new club to their first win of the season.
Different season, same Pogba. The Juventus midfielder is up to his old tricks again by reaching for his all gold Nike Magista Obra boots that we saw a lot of last season in the Champions League and Serie A. Pogba must have one of the biggest collections of custom football boots on the professional scene and rarely wears anything that hits the shelves.
There's still a small group of players that are flying the flag for the discontinued Nike CTR360 series and Northampton's Alfie Potter is one of those who stocked up well on the Maestri III before it was retired in favour of the Magista line. Many players argue that the CTR was never replaced as the technology of the Magista sits firmly away from the control elements of the boot and it's hard to argue that it was taken too soon.
One man that can challenge Paul Pogba's colossal collection is Bakary Sako, we found that out in Issue 3 of the magazine as we visited his place to see what his boot room consisted of. Sako deservedly got his big move the Premier League over the summer and wasted no time opening his goal-scoring account for Crystal Palace scoring the winner against Aston Villa on Saturday in the 'Tech Craft' Superfly IV.
On the subject of discontinued boots Leonardo Toco was reppin' the all black adidas F50 adizero at the weekend for Real Potosi. The F50 series hasn't been in the archives for long and still unsurprisingly packs a huge on pitch presence as players slowly begin warm to the new X 15.1 series.
Eric Dier's brand contract has been up in the air for a long time now after cutting ties with Umbro last season. The Tottenham full back has kicked off the 2015/16 season wearing a prototype-esque edition of the Nike Magista Opus, a boot that if released to the public would no doubt be an instant hit, for Dier though it could be a come and get me plee to any interested brands.
