In a week of trophy successes and disappointments we've taken a look back at the past seven days to shout out the pick of the kicks. As we edge towards the Champions League Final and Women's World Cup brands are gearing up for another busy summer and here's what they had to offer this week...
It was a frustrating afternoon at Wembley for Jack Grealish in the FA Cup Final. The Aston Villa youngster, a shining light in a dismal league season for the Villains, was wearing the Hypervenom Phinish with personalisation calling out the big day but his side were out-classed by a rampant Arsenal who retained the FA Cup. He's got class but the kid needs to pull his socks up, literally. Straight out of the Alexsander Hleb school of kit scruffiness.
Launched in December 2010 the Nike CTR360 Maestri II installed itself as one of the modern great boots. Popular with players all over the pitch, especially centre midfielders the second-generation CTR was released in a Challenge Red/White colourway, a combo seen on the feet of Krasnodar's Vladislav Kulik this weekend.
adidas recently let a number of USWNT players get stuck into miadidas to create a series of custom designed boots. Morgan Brian took her creativity skills off pitch to whip up a white/black/lime split edition of the 11Pro and wore them in a friendly against South Korea this week.
It's becoming hard not to include Paul Pogba in Boot Spotting every week. The Juventus midfielder originally jumped the gun on the 'Silver Storm' Pack but switched back into a modified version of them in a 2-2 draw with Verona at the weekend. Pogba's boots featured an all silver upper rather than the black detailing on the standard editions. What will he wear in Berlin on Saturday? That's anyone's guess.
The FA Cup Final would have been the perfect occasion for New Balance to finally launch their debut football boot but the brand kept Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey in the white-out version of their mystery silo. New Balance have still yet to reveal their football footwear collection in what must be the longest tease phase of all time, although the latest clue was Ramsey's yellow soles.
USWNT goal-machine Abby Wambach was amongst a number of player to switch into the new Nike 2015 Women's World Cup pack this week. The beautifully bold collection of boots were specifically designed to match up with the USNWT home kit for the tournament that gets underway in Canada later this month.
Meghan Klingenberg provided a first look at the 2015 Women's World Cup pack Nike Hypervenom during her side's friendly with South Korea. The pack combine flashes of Volt yellow with a striking ‘Blue Lagoon’ color, a nod to the famous lakes of tournament host nation Canada.
Women's football was the place to be this week for new releases as one of the most underrated boot packs of the year dropped as the girls warmed up for the World Cup. Canada's Lauren Sesselmann was reppin' the Nike Magista Obra update in her side's 1-0 win over England. Although the pack is launched as the women's specific colourways, they will indeed by available in men's sizes too. Win, win.
Sticking with the women's theme France's Louisa Necib provided a first on-pitch look at the official Women's World Cup X15 colourway. If the bold volt launch drop was too much for you then Necib's footwear prove that the X15 packs a canvas that can look simplistically clean when paired up with a toned down paint job.
Tottenham's post-season/pre-pre-season, depending on how you want to look at it, is in full flow as they took on a Malaysian XI this week. One of the players called up to the XI was Mohd Nasir who was wearing Mario Balotelli's signature evoACCURACY "MB45" boots. In theory the boot should have been a success but due to Balotelli's lack of game time it slipped pretty much under the radar.
Neymar read Nike's script in the Copa del Rey final. Laced up in his modified Hypervenom II the Barca number 11 slotted home the second goal of the match as Barca lifted the trophy at the expense of Athletic Bilbao. Nike will be hoping he replicates that on Saturday in Berlin without being out-done by that pesky number 10 wearing his brand new adidas signature boot. For Barca, they won't care who gets the headlines.
Just 2500 pairs of the limited edition Nike 'Tropical Pack' were dropped in the run up to the 2014 World Cup. Inspired by the host country, Brazil, the trio of boots featured different Amazon Jungle themed prints on the Mercurial Vapor IX. Rubin Kazan's Maksim Kanunnikov snagged a pair of the Flash Green version to match up with team's colours.
