It's Black Friday - in case you didn't know - so while frantic shoppers wrestle over that last Polaroid TV, we've compiled a list of the best black boots to grace the game in 2014. So sit back, relax and enjoy some stunning pieces of football footwear.
Pantofola d'Oro Lazzarini Deluxe | Febuary
Those Italians are definitely the masters when it comes to black boots. This year their Lazzarini range was headlined by the “Deluxe” model, a boot that positioned itself very much on the ultra-cool side of the fence. With its plush soft black leather and lace cover, this boot doesn’t just go down as one of our favourite black boots of the year, but one of our favourite releases of 2014.
Nike CTR360 Maestri III "Lights Out" | April
As Nike retired the CTR360 and welcomed the reign of the groundbreaking Magista, we literally saw the lights go out on the popular silo with a limited edition CTR360 Maestri III release that needs no further introduction.
PUMA evoPOWER 1 Leather | April
New boot, old formula. Black-outs are sometimes saved for a boot that’s on its way out but in April PUMA wasted little time in giving the evoPOWER the black-out treatment. The boots arrived in a black leather upper which extended its appeal beyond its initial fan base.
Puma King Top K di | June
The classic PUMA King we’ve all come to know and love received a black-out twist in June with the PUMA form stripe and outsole both joining the black leather upper to create an all-over theme highlighted only by the KING branding on the outside, tongue and heel.
Nike Stealth Pack II | July
Much like recent years, the Nike Stealth Pack was another monster release for 2014, launching in July with each silo decorated with a black upper, a white outlined Swoosh and individual colour pops.
adidas Predator Instinct | August
It didn’t take long for adidas to turn the lights out on the Predator Instinct. After launching as part of the Battle Pack and returning for its official launch in more familiar colours, adidas gave the Instinct some much needed black-out treatment in August 2014.
adidas F50 adizero | August
The adizero wasn’t fast enough to escape the black-out craze of 2014, with adidas launching their speed boot for the first time in true black-out fashion. Not a drip of colour and a leather upper. Just how it should be.
adidas Copa Mundial | August
After abusing the Copa Mundial with a series of colourways towards the end of 2013, adidas did the impossible with their longest-serving silo and made it better. Three black stripes, a black sole-plate and gold call-outs. Does it get any better?
Nike Premier SG | Novemeber
Nike answered the calls of many fans with the launch of the SG Premier, meaning players can now enjoy the retro-themed boots during the winter months.
Umbro UX-1 Concept | November
Umbro made sure they didn’t miss out on the black-out game with the launch of the UX-1 Concept, inspired by prototype football boots. That meant one thing; no colour - anywhere - making this a surprise contender for best black-out of the year.
