What started as a friendly office debate turned into a long and heated dispute until we finally agreed (sort of) on our top ten 2014 World Cup shirts. Some shirts, including the away strips of England, Italy and Portugal didn't even make it on pitch in Brazil, but from the kits that did grace the turf here's our top ten.
10 | Portugal Home - With Portugal being dumped out of the group stage we missed out on seeing their slick away kit but what we did see however was their two-toned home kit. The light and dark red stripes combined to create a kit busy enough to look interesting without being over the top. 5/10
9 | Argentina Home - The famous blue and white Argentina shirts bring back memories for everyone. The iconic design needed little change to keep it original and adidas added a print across the front of the chest to mimic the national flag waving in the wind. Solid design. 6/10
8 | Germany Away - Yeah, it may be borderline rugby but there's something about those chunky red and black horizontal stripes that works. Topped off with a two-buttoned grandad collar and all white crest and adidas badge it's one of our favourite away kits on show. We wouldn't bet against there being more stars than stripes on the next Germany away kit. 6/10
7 | Holland Home - The Holland home shirt is one of the most instantly recognisable kits in the world and swamps stadiums. Large old-school crest, classic v-neck design, simplicity and its very best. Sometimes less is more. 6/10
6 | Croatia Home - On the subject of distinctive kits they don't come much more unique than Croatia. The famous red and white checks and joined by all red sleeves and we've got a lot of love for the retro number patch on the front. 6/10
5 | Mexico Home - It's got lightening bolts on it, and that alone earns it a spot in the top 5. It's different and different is good. Mexico didn't play it safe but nor did they go overboard, not too in your face, far from dull. Top effort. 7/10
4 | France Away - France kits are always beautifully designed and this year was no different. The only thing more handsome than Olivier Giroud in this photo? The France away kit. Elegant horizontal faded stripes on an all white backdrop and a buttoned collar. That'll do nicely. 8/10
3 | Germany Home - adidas always save special treatment for the Germany shirts. The German brand whipped up another beauty this year with a three-toned chevron design on the chest that held the adidas logo and German crest. Second best adidas kit on show. 9/10
2 | USA Away - Everyone fell a little bit in love with the US this summer. They're all out attack, risk everything style play was exciting and their 'we're probably not going to win it so let's just give it a proper go' attitude won over a lot of fans. As for the away kit, brilliantly American, just one glance at it makes us want to break into chants of U-S-A. 9/10
1 | Colombia Home - Admit it, you've been calling all your mates called James Ham-es all World cup haven't you? Not many team's simply go out and enjoy it but Colombia's attitude has been exactly that, work hard, enjoy it and the results will follow. As for the kit, it's bright, eccentric and beautifully South American. 10/10
Honourable mentions to Holland away, France home and Italy away. Agree with our list? Nah, of course you don't, so let us know which 2014 World Cup shirts make your top ten in the comments below.
