Xabi Alonso and Cristiano Ronaldo got involved in one of the oldest debates in football this week. As the players made their way out to training the Real Madrid duo could be heard arguing in defence of their sponsored brands, adidas & Nike.
Alonso has worn the Three Stripes for his entire career and Ronaldo The Swoosh for all of his. Both players are loyal to their respective brands and their passion was overheard by the cameras recording the training session.
It was Ronaldo who kicked off the debate by asking Alonso "How can you compare adidas to Nike?" The rest followed as below:
Alonso: adidas is history, Nike are basketball shoes.
Ronaldo: Basketball?
Alonso: Yes. Those boots are best?
Cristiano Ronaldo: Yes, these boots are top... for a top player.
Alonso: But they're plastic.
Ronaldo: Plastic?
Alonso: Yes Plastic. Nike Football are 3 days old. Madrid is adidas, adidas is 70 years in football, not like Nike who have been around 3 days.
Who do you agree with? Alonso or Ronaldo? Which brand do you prefer? Let us know. Join the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
