After assessing the weekends action we've compiled a list of ten things that have changed our footballing knowledge for the better. More play acting, unorthodox passing, terrible defending and deadline day antics. Here's our top ten talking points from the weekend.
Passing Masster Class – Galatasaray's Wesley Sneijder might have scored a hat trick at the weekend but that was nothing compared to his beautifully majestic ass pass in the second half. Because passing with your feet is too mainstream. The only thing that could have made this any better is if it was done by Liverpool's Iago Aspas.
#PrayForChico – Our thoughts this weekend are with Swansea defender Chico Flores, his family and his hairdresser. Flores' elegantly conditioned pony tail was, what can only be described as 'brushed' by the elbow of Andy Carroll which saw the Flores burst into tears and the West Ham man sent off. Embarrassing. Remember when centre halves used to be hardmen? Wouldn't have caught Neil Ruddock doing that.
Stat of the Week – Barcelona's 3-2 defeat to Valencia on Saturday was the first time Leo Messi has scored at the Nou Camp and Barcelona have gone on to lose the game. Stick that in your pub quiz.
Oh no Kolo – If someone said to you after the Merseyside derby that one Liverpool defender would cost them 3 points against West Brom you would have put your house, car and wife on it being Aly Cissokho but it was Kolo Toure in the spotlight on Sunday. Toure would have been watching Match of the Day 2 from behind the sofa last night after that horror show.
Taylor Made? - Many factors can prevent a move from going through on transfer deadline day, failed medical, personal terms, transfer fees etc but Swansea's Neil Taylor was denied a loan move to Fulham due to his wife rather inconveniently going into labour. Move to West London off, back to Wales. After Chico Flores' pathetic show on Saturday the last thing Taylor needs is another blubbering, crying baby to look after.
The Morning After - Arsene Wenger was doing the football equivalent of sneaking out the back door before the lights come on at the weekend. After staggering around the dancefloor of the Transfer Deadline Day Nightclub at 3am and bumping into Kim Kallstrom Wenger sealed the deal and is now full of regret. "I wouldn't have signed him if we had another two or three days, but it was on Friday at 5pm." Should've just had a kebab and gone home, we've all been there Arsene, we've all been there.
Cardiff Won Deadline Day – Wilfried Zaha puts in a game changing performance and grabs an assist and Kenwyne Jones scores the winner against Norwich. Three huge points against a relegation rival, if that's the only thing they do for the club then it still has to be considered as shrewd business by Solskjaer.
Roy's Boys – Southampton's England players turned on the style at Fulham as Jay Rodriguez, Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert all notched in their 3-0 in front of the England gaffer. Is there room for all three of them on the plane to Brazil? Probably not, but we reckon at least one will be there. Sturridge on the score sheet again and the Ox was also back with a bang. Nothing like being filled with false hope before getting dumped out on pens in the quarters.
Advantage Atleti – With Barcelona and Real Madrid both choking it was good weekend for Atletico. Jordi Alba sent off for Barca, Ronaldo sent off for Real Madrid and Atletico smashing Sociedad 4-0, are the big two feeling the pressure? There could well be a new La Liga Champion at the end of the season.
Keep Ball – Bayern Munich's Thiago set two new Bundesliga records in his side's 5-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt. Thiago made 185 touches, which smashed the previous record of 151 held by Bastian Schweinteiger and if that wasn't enough he also completed 159 passes, another record. Not a bad afternoon's work. Pass and move kids, pass and move. Failing that, launch it at the big man, it's far more English.
