As clubs returned from Winter breaks and FA Cup action took priority in England we dive two-footed into the first global boot spotting of 2014 to take a look at the players and boots that caught our eye over the last seven days. Camouflaged designs, new and custom colourways, new year, same drill...
Sanchez Watt (Colchester United) NikeiD HyperVenom |
Sanchez Watt slipped into a custom pair of Nike HyperVenoms on New Years' Day as his Colchester side took on MK Dons. Watt, who signed from Arsenal in the Summer has obviously designed the colourway to match up with Colchester's home kit but they still stood out as the U's played out a 0-0 draw at Stadium MK. |
Kenwyne Jones (Stoke City) Nike Tiempo Legend V |
Kenwyne Jones was recalled to the Stoke team at the weekend for their FA Cup 3rd round tie at home to Leicester City. Jones marked his return to the starting eleven by wearing the new flash pack Nike Tiempo Legend V and a pair of red TruSox. |
Xabi Alonso (Real Madrid) adidas adiPURE 11Pro |
Real Madrid and PSG met up in Qatar for a winter break friendly earlier in the week. Xabi Alonso used the game to test out the next generation adiPURE 11PRO. Alonso, who used to wear the adiPURE series swapped his Nitrocharge boots for the latest 11Pro edition as Real Madrid ran out 1-0 winners. |
Milos Krasic (Bastia) PUMA V1.11 SL |
We've started to notice that Bastia's Milos Krasic has got a bit of a collection of old PUMA boots. Last month we spotted him wearing the V1.06 from 2005 and this week he pulled out another pair from his archive to wear the V1.11 SL against Evian. |
Marcus Haber (Stevenage) Nike Mercurial Vapor I |
One of the boot spots of the week came via Stevenage's Marcus Haber. Haber laced up in the Nike Mercurial Vapor I as his side pulled off an FA Cup upset at Championship side Doncaster. Originally released in 2002, the first ever generation Vapor is now over a decade old so Haber would have been 12 when they came out. |
Sergio Mantecon (Elche) Joma Super Copa |
Joma's latest speed boot hasn't featured much on pitch since it's release in July but Elche's Sergio Mantecon was reppin' a pair of Super Copa's at the Nou Camp on Sunday as his side were hammered 4-0 by their Catalan hosts. |
Cesc Fabregas (Barcelona) PUMA evoPOWER CAMO |
PUMA continued their build up to the official evoPOWER launch by releasing a CAMO version of the new silo this week. Cesc Fabregas laced up in the unique design as Barca saw off Elche and he, along with Balotelli and Reus, are expected to stay in the camouflaged design until the launch of the first colourway later this month. |
Jason Hoffman (Melbourne Heart) Nike HyperVenom |
The Nike Flash Pack made another appearance down under at the weekend as a number of Melbourne Heart players opted for the reflective versions of Nike's silos. Jason Hoffman was amongst the Heart players wearing the HyperVenom, which creates a clean and crisp look on pitch. |
James McClean (Wigan) miadidas adizero F50 |
James McClean kicked off the new year in the same fashion as last year by switching into another pair of new football boots. The Wigan midfielder has a reputation for his impressive collection of boots, he's partial to a limited edition boot as well as chopping and changing brands and silos and his latest boot comes in the form of a black/orange miadidas F50. |
Adriano (Barcelona) Nike HyperVenom |
Adriano gave us a sneak peek at the next Nike HyperVenom colourway in Barcelona's open training session at the Mini Estadi this week. The blue/volt/black colourway is scheduled to launch next month so it's unlikely we'll see the Barca full back wearing them competitively until then. |
Michael Doughty (Stevenage) Nike Tiempo Legend III Elite |
Another Stevenage player who caught our eye in the FA Cup 3rd round weekend was Michael Doughty. The on-loan QPR man was wearing the white/volt Nike Tiempo Legend III Elite boots as Stevenage advanced to the fourth round with a 3-2 win at Doncaster. |
Mario Balotelli (AC Milan) PUMA evoPOWER CAMO |
Mario Balotelli was a second half substitute in AC Milan's 3-0 win over Atalanta on Monday afternoon. The Italian striker gave a brief debut to his new PUMA evoPOWER Camo boots as he moves into the new silo after officially signing for the brand last month. |
