This year we've witnessed one of the most hotly-contested summer's when it comes to football boots. So as the kick-off to the new season approaches, we want to know which boots have won their respective battles. The key face-offs feature fourteen of the hottest boots to launch this summer season. But which have come out on top? Take a look and leave your votes in the comments.
adidas Nitrocharge vs Nike HyperVenom - Two newcomers to the game that have battled all summer for the no.1 spot. The adidas Nitrocharge and Nike HyperVenom may be targeted at different players, but there's been no ignoring the heat created between these two rival boots. Both boots have played the lead role in blockbuster launch campaigns, with the Nitrocharge taking us to Barcelona and the HyperVenom jetting us out to Rio. If there's one thing the HyperVenom holds over the Nitrocharge it's a stronger playing squad.
adidas F50 adizero vs Nike Mercurial Vapor IX - The age old speed battle that's divided players for over a decade. It's been another busy summer for the adidas F50 adizero and the Nike Mercurial Vapor IX. Both have seen their share of bright and dark colourways this summer, with the F50 being treated to all-black and all-white editions and the Mercurial finally getting it's long awaited black/white colour combo as part of Nike's Stealth Pack. Which one wins? It's too close for us to call.
PUMA evoSPEED 1 vs Mizuno Morelia Neo - The second speed battle of the summer. PUMA have been making a lot of noise with their evoSPEED, launching the unforgettable pink-spotted CAMO edition and Hublot collaboration model. With Mizuno it's been a quieter affair but as always the colourways haven't disappointed. The Autumn Glory/White/Diva Blue Neo might just be our favourite colourway title of the year. Both boots have reminded us that it's not all about the big two when it comes to speed.
adidas adiPURE IV vs PUMA King Finale - The classic leathers haven't disappointed this summer either, although it's been a bit quieter on the colourway front. With the adiPURE adidas have given us a collection of winning colourways headlined by the white/black/gold editions. PUMA's white/red/black colourway has fronted the collection while both brands have also treated us to black-out editions of their heritage boots. We had to put them up against each other, but truth is we're massive fans of both.
Nike CTR360 Maestri III vs adidas Predator LZ - It's still hard to categorise the adidas Predator as a 'control' boot, but with adidas repositioning their iconic silo, the Predator now finds itself up against the Nike CTR360 Maestri. It feels like the CTR has had a relatively quiet summer, the blue/volt/black colourway has been on the scene for a number of months now. The new Predator LZ model has been making more noise, having already been given four colour updates, including the SL model. Now that the colourways are back on track with better looking designs, adidas might just edge this battle.
Mizuno Wave Ignitus 3 vs PUMA PowerCat 1.2 - Mizuno maintained their record of winning designs following the release of their third generation Wave Ignitus boot. PUMA on the other hand continue to given even more life to their long lived PowerCat 1.2 boot. An overdue update is surely in the pipe line. Even so, in typical PUMA style they've done things their own way. The unmistakable PowerCat 'Dia del Futbol' Graphic will go down as one of the craziest boots of the year. Performance wise, it's hard to argue against the Wave Ignitus.
adidas Copa Mundial vs Nike Premier - Ever thought the adidas Copa Mundial would have a rival from those Nike folks over in America? Well now it does. The Nike Premier has shaken a few feathers this summer, threatening to overthrow the old guard. Despite being hugely popular, the Copa is still king of the classics for us but we're interested to see how this battle develops. Can't decide? Well surely true classics should always have a tongue. There's your answer.
