Warrior Sports take a second crack at Liverpool's iconic red home jersey with their latest design for the 2013/14 season. Made by the American sportswear manufacturer, this is Warrior's second LFC home strip after signing a record-breaking £25m-a-year deal with the Premier League club last year.
Looking at the new design, the American supplier's have made improvements on their debut home offering. This season's Anfield outfit boasts a more effective blend of new and tradition, and is based on past glories of the club's 1984 kit - the year Liverpool won their fourth European Cup.
The latest home strip brings noticeable changes for next season's ensemble of Liverpool players to enjoy. The jersey features white sleeve trims and a white trimmed collar, which takes direct inspiration from the shirt worn by Kenny Daglish & Ian Rush in Liverpool's 1984 European Cup triumph. The Eternal flames alongside the 96 logo remain on the nape of the shirt's neck in commemoration of the Hillsborough events of 1989.
A closer look at the shirt reveals its visual depth. Running alongside the embroidered liver bird emblem, Warrior Sports bring a new pin-stripe print across the front of the jersey, with the words 'Liverpool FC' subtly interwoven into the fabric.
The Liverpool players have taken well to the new kit. Captain Steven Gerrard commented. ‘The players and I are all genuine fans of the new kit. It will certainly spark many happy memories of the club’s famous fourth European Cup win for supporters of that era. As with all Liverpool shirts, I will wear it with pride and carry the excitement and history of what it represents, and, as a team, we hope to bring that success back to the club.’
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has also welcomed the new-look design. ‘It’s distinctly Liverpool which the players and I love. It exceeds what we need it to do technically while also delivering a strong visual statement.’
Speaking on the new kit, head of Warrior Football Richard Wright commented, ‘The new home kit pays tribute to the renowned success LFC is built on, but it is also a nod to the future. With high performance the top priority, our design team has further developed what was loved about our last design and lifted it to a new level.’
Warrior use their War-Tec technology. The technology revolves around the fabric of the shirt, making it light and breathable. The new shirt uses a four-way mesh system under the arms and across the back, allowing for effective airflow and ventilation.
