The boundaries of football product design and innovation are constantly being pushed. The ultimate endorsement to a new piece of tech is player uptake, so as a growing number of Premier League stars are spotted wearing Trusox, we decided it was time for an up-close look.
The concept behind the Trusox socks is if you want to change direction faster you have to maximise power transfer. In order to do that, you must stop your foot from moving within your boots or trainers. With the launch of the Trusox, professional players soon realised their explosive speed and direction-changing could be enhanced.
As with any new product in it's life-cycle you get the early adopters, those keen to be the first to test the merits and performance of a new innovation. Trusox lock the foot in the shoe, as non-slip pads on the outside AND inside stop the sock from sliding on your foot, and in turn the sock from sliding within the boot. TruSox decrease the excess space between your foot and the inside of the boot, generating a 'moulded to the foot' feel, which in turn helps to stop the repetitive motions between the foot, sock and shoe, that cause blisters.
Any on pitch distraction can be a hindrance on a player's performance, TruSox helps players to focus their attention on the game by ensuring maximum comfort.
FIFA's new regulations dictate that players must wear the TruSox colourway that matches their team's sock colour. To optimise performance Trusox recommends not wearing extra socks on your feet, the pads will then be in direct contact with the inside of your boots.
So how do you get around wearing your team socks and TruSox? Well, cut your team sock just above the ankle (ask your manager first!) wear your team sock as a leg sleeve so that it just overlaps the top of the TruSox and then tape over the join between the TruSox and your team sock. Done.
