In another fine expression of their ability to marry the two worlds of performance and fashion, NikeLab and Balmain Creative Director (think Kendall Jenner on a catwalk) Olivier Rousteing — a self-proclaimed football fan since his childhood — have pushed the aesthetic boundaries of Nike Football’s four silos, reimagining them with dark and glamourous high-end aesthetics, luxury finishes and touches of gold. Extravagant? Yes, but who cares.
Speaking on the footwear, NikeLab Senior Footwear Innovation Design Director Nate Jobe explains; “In each model [NikeLab Free Mercurial Flyknit x OR & NikeLab Footscape Magista x OR] we’ve embroidered patterns into the Flyknit for the first time, which creates a completely new expression of the technology.” The collection also welcomes a new lifestyle rendition of the Tiempo VI to the streets. The NikeLab Roshe Tiempo VI blends the upper of the classic football boot with a Nike Roshe outsole. Just look at the result — an almighty mash-up.
Blending sport performance pieces with high-end threads, the footwear collection is complemented by apparel pieces including the NikeLab N98 Jacket x OR, NikeLab Top x OR, both of which have been transformed to reinvent the off-pitch look of football with gold framing and an embroidered woven crest.
Items from the NikeLab x Olivier Rousteing: Football Nouveau collection are available beginning June 2 at nike.com/nikelab and select NikeLab stores. Bank balance permitting.
