Stealing the show with the Champions League Final and EURO 2016 calling, the new Mercurial Superfly V is a feat of design. Inspired by those qualities of the enigmatic, Mercurial player, it's no surprise that Mr. Mercurial himself, Cristiano Ronaldo, is used to personify these boots.
Under the hood, it's about tailored engineering as the anatomical plate is aligned with the natural contours of the foot, eliminating the gap that previously existed underfoot. Additionally, the boot's soleplate is 40% lighter than the carbon fiber plate it replaces, yet is stronger and more responsive. The traction system has also been revamped for speed. Nike’s design team tested different variations of cleats, blades, chevrons and other shapes in a variety of traction patterns. For the first time, Nike Football leveraged virtual Finite Element Analysis (FEA) testing, which provided scientific data to identify which traction pattern works best for the speed-focused player, inclusive of linear sprints.
Nike Football Design Lead Jeongwoo Lee outlines the objective with the new Mercurial. “Our approach with the new Mercurial was to challenge all assumptions about speed, merging science with design to build the fastest boot in football. We designed this boot holistically to ensure it was a true speed system, where all of the materials interlock to produce the most efficient package possible.”
The Nike Spark Brilliance Pack also marks the return of the original Hypervenom I NikeSkin upper on the HyperVenom II silhouette. Flair and colour not in short supply, this pack isn't about simply lighting up the party it's about creating fresh thinking and individual brilliance. An inspired collection that goes the distance in offering the perfect wheels. All that's left is for the driver to take 'em to the pitch and let rip.
Completing the pack are the Magista and Tiempo with their all out attacking tones of vibrancy. No doubts they'll be noticed all over the pitch in a matter of days.
Hitting stores, you can pick up the full pack from May 31st while the Mercurial drops into the Nike Football App from May 28th.
