Naturally, Nike have contributed the designs for BIKETOWN鈥檚 stations and the visual bike identity, plastered in trademark Nike Orange - a colour that has been synonymous with Nike since it was introduced in 1971 to the Swooshed shoebox, and it's those shoeboxes where the bike's basket draws inspiration from.
鈥淲e鈥檙e proud of our long history of partnership with the City of Portland and believe that the BIKETOWN bike share program is one more example of how we can work together to help make Portland an even more active, vibrant and innovative community 鈥� goals Nike and the City of Portland share,鈥� said Nike Vice President of Global Community Impact Jorge Casimiro.
The partnership, which includes $10 million over five years, will increase the number of bikes in the Portland Bike Share Program from the 600 that were initially planned to 1,000. The bright orange design also serve a safety purpose and include strategically placed, complementary reflective gray tape and logos. In true Nike fashion you can expect additional, limited-edition bike wraps dropping across Portland in the next 5 years.
