A shoe that introduced a generation to the culture of Air Max, the '95, the creation of young designer Sergio Lozano 20 years ago changed the DNA of Nike running while inspiring an unprecedented wave of sneaker design for both performance and lifestyle. No shoe had ever featured a similar construction or colour choice but the monumental introduction of forefoot visible air was a serious introduction to the game.
To mark the twentieth anniversary of the Air Max 95, Nike celebrates with the release The Air Max 95 Ultra Jacquard. Ben Yun, a Nike designer and someone very much inspired by the original work of Lozano was tasked to recreate the heavyweight cornerstone of shoe. A task very different than anything he had done with the silhouette previously. “Most of my other Air Max 95 models involved applying new innovations and keeping with the iconic design of the original, like the Air Max 95 Engineered Mesh. The Air max 95 Ultra Jacquard is the one that really pushes the envelope.”
A case of fine tuning, there was no need to re-invent a classic, moreover, refresh it. Using the Jacquard weaving process on the upper whilst introducing second generation Nike Flywire this adds some of the contemporary innovation and technical developments that Nike have created over the last 20 years. The finished product, thought noticeably different is clearly an evolution from the original Air Max '95. As thought provoking as ever, it's a glaring beaut.
The Nike Sportswear Air Max 95 Ultra Jacquard will be available on nike.com/sportswear as well as select Nike Sportswear retailers like Pro-Direct Select beginning Jul. 16.
