An unprecedented third Women’s World Cup title for the U.S. Women's National Team is a remarkable feat. Writing their names in the history books in such dominating style, beating Japan 5-2 has rightly been celebrated by official kit supplier Nike. The brand has added a proud third star to the United States jersey.
A tournament in which Nike athletes have grabbed the headlines, both Carli Lloyd and Hope Solo, were honored for their individual performances. Lloyd was awarded Most Valuable Player of the tournament and claimed the Golden Boot award. Solo won the Golden Glove award, conceding only three goals during the entire tournament, setting the record for least amount of goals allowed during a World Cup finals. Simply heroic.
Adding further bunting to the party, A giant digital poster celebrating the U.S. Women's National Team will appear on West 34th St in New York City while the limited release T-shirt collection that features the fresh third star (representing USWNT wins in 1991, 1999 and now 2015) will go on sale from 8th July from Nike.com.
In total, there were eleven Nike-sponsored teams competing in the tournament and an enormous 86 of 140 goals were scored in Nike boots. Impressive? Just a touch.
