Time and time again we've heard that Cristiano Ronaldo is 'out of this world' and that's the exact inspiration behind his new Mercurial Superfly, his 7th signature shoe in the series and his first exclusive Superfly since 2011. The new boot features a classic black Mercurial Superfly silhouette with a shimmering twist and bold 'CR7' graphics on the insteps to drop in as contender for the hottest boot in the CR collection.
Nike have a history of tactically releasing a signature CR boot ahead of el clasico and there's always a weight of expectation that comes with each of their key man's unique boots. The galaxy theme continues from the previous CR edition in a range that dates back to the original Mercurial Safari in 2010.
"These new boots are well-suited for me because they're elegant, beautiful, and they really shine in a new and different way" said a modest Ronaldo. "I’ve always liked trying out new boots, new collections, new colors. Obviously it’s a special game against a big team this week, and I'm excited to play in boots that I feel so good in."
Max Blau, VP Global Football Footwear explains how the design team was inspired by the idea of taking a classic color and making it look totally new, "What we’ve done here is create a completely new way to look at black. This boot should set a new bar on-pitch."
Using a new iteration of Nike Skin technology has allowed the shimmer effect of the upper, something Blau was determined to execute, “We knew we wanted to create this shimmering effect on-pitch to really stand out in the sun or under lights, but it took us many iterations to get it right. The idea was inspired by Cristiano,” added Blau. “The way he shows up in big matches and really shines, is what makes him the best there is.”
The Mercurial Superfly CR7 will be available to purchase exclusively through the Nike Football App for iOS and Android starting Oct. 23, and through selected online stockists including Pro-Direct Soccer on Oct. 24. What's the verdict? Drop us a line below.
