The CTR360 silo is signing off in true stealth style as Nike launch the limited edition 'Lights Out' editions. The black-out design marks the end of the CTR360 line that first launched in 2009. They'll be a rush to secure one of the 2,500 pairs allocated worldwide before the Magista takes its place in Nike's line-up.
The CTR series was originally launched in 2009 as the ultimate midfielder's boot. Five years on and Nike's technology has progressed, the much-loved CTR is retired and the innovative Magista takes over the baton.
Making one last appearance before it's hung up forever Nike have given the CTR360 Maestri III a complete blackout paint job as it bows out in style. The CTR was one of the most popular silos in recent seasons with an appeal to players in all positions, but innovation doesn't stand still and as the spotlight is about to be switched onto the Magista the lights are dimmed on the CTR.
We'll leave it to Nike Football Design Director, Denis Dekovic to tell you the rest; “The game has changed and that has led us to new innovations for our players. This means that we won’t continue to innovate the CTR 360, but we know this boot has a lot of fans so we wanted to say goodbye with something special."
“We know that our players love black boots as much as they love to express themselves through color. We loved the idea of turning the lights out on the CTR 360 and thought that an all-black version would be a great way to say goodbye," Dekovic adds.
The boot features slight tones of black throughout giving it an added feel of luxury with a hint of reflectivity in the laces. "When we wear-test samples of a new boot we use all-black versions and the players react really well to the secrecy element. We’ve loved that insight; it looks cool and fits the creative direction. It’s also great that the color we first sampled the boot in is the same with which we say goodbye,” added Dekovic.
The new Nike CTR360 Maestri III Lights Out football boots will be available from selected online retailers including Pro-Direct Soccer. What do you think? Let us know. Join the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
