To celebrate 16 years of innovation, Nike Football have used the build up to this summer's World Cup to roll-out their Mercurial 'Fast Forward' series. Inspired by Mercurial models of the last four World Cups, each iconic colourway has be re-created for the current Vapor IX. Today the series comes to an end with the Mercurial Fast Forward 2010 editions.
Cristiano Ronaldo, Nike's lead face for the Mercurial elite series in 2010, will be the only player to wear the new boots. The Portuguse front-man has been due an update, having worn the Mercurial 'Flash-Pack' boots since January and is scheduled to debut the boots in this weekend's Clasico.
Four years ago South Africa witnessed Nike's most ground-breaking boot pack to date, featuring breakthrough innovations never seen before and unique color combinations designed for increased visibility. The collection became an instant classic.
To recognise the contributions of the Mercurial Vapor Superfly II, the Mercurial Vapor IX Fast Forward ’10 provides today's players with modern boot technology inspired by visual elements of the original boot. Subtle graphic references and colors combine with modern materials and technology to celebrate the boot’s legacy.
The Nike Mercurial Superfly II was was lighter and more supportive than anything before with Nike Flywire technology enabling lightweight, supportive construction, while a carbon fiber plate created a boot 5 percent lighter than its predecessor. The high-contrast colors of Metallic Mach Purple and Total Orange were not only engineered together for stunning looks but for enhanced visibility too.
