Nike have released a trio of new designs on their Mercurial Lite Shinpads to match up with their current boot colourways. The Mercurial Lite Shinpads are designed to be as light and simplistic as possible to the extent that players don't even realise they're wearing them.
Although the main objective of shinpads is to obviously protect your shins, for many players they can be seen as an inconvenience that adds weight and distracts comfort, but the Mercurial Lite collection takes that inconvenience away by offering a super light platform with minimalist design for no distractions.
The Mercurial Lite collection takes away straps and ankle pads and even the need for tape by using a stretch material sleeve which keeps each pad in place and prevents them slipping down during games. The sleek design is popular with many professionals who opt to wear the smallest possible pad to tick the rule book box.
The latest collection of Mercurial Lite Shinpads are available in Neo Lime/Chrome (to match the latest Mercurial Vapor IX colourway) Chrome/Neo Lime (a nod to the HyperVenom) and Atomic Orange/Violet (A tidy match for either the Tiempo V or CTR). We're aware that you can't see shin pads when you’re playing, but still, it makes for a pretty stylish kit bag.
If, like a few players in our changing rooms on a Saturday afternoon, you've had the same battered, stinking shin pads since school then it's time for change. Unbelievably light, small, comfortable and you get change from a twenty, that's just about all you need to know but for you tech heads out there Nike will have you know the durable shell is bonded to a dense foam backing for excellent impact diffusion and comfort against the skin. Also worth noting is the anatomical left/right design for a contoured fit, so if they feel uncomfortable, you've got them on the wrong legs.
The new Nike Mercurial Lite Shinpads are available from selected online retailers including Pro-Direct Soccer. What do you think? Let us know. Join the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
