Footballer's playing in the 2014 World Cup could be facing temperatures in the region of 30°C (85°F) and 80 percent humidity - that's pretty warm for 90 minutes exertion. So a base layer is the last they'll be packing right? Wrong. The time has come to start believing in base layers and reap the rewards they offer.
To coincide with the upcoming World Cup Nike have released a Brazil edition of their new Pro Combat Ultralight base layer, a super-light form fitting top that aids the body's temperature control and reduces distractions under your uniform.
The Nike Pro Combat Ultralight base layer in particular is a high performance minimalist design base layer constructed of Nike's proven Dri-FIT fabric. Ergonomic flat seams and a nonrestrictive fit aid comfort whilst mesh panels on the back offer breathability. Along with standard black and white editions, Nike have also released a rather cool Brazil design to be worn by the home nation at this year's World Cup.
To ensure players are able to perform at their peak in every game, they need to be kept cool on the pitch, and recover quickly off it. Nike's Pro Combat technology comes into its own by moving moisture away from your body, soaking it up and wicking it away.
"For 2014, we redesigned the entire base layer system for all Nike Federations," said Martin Lotti, Creative Director, Nike Football. "While in Brasil, our players will potentially face high temperatures so we've created multiple features to increase breathability."
The new Nike Pro Combat Ultralight Base layer is available now from selected stockists including Pro-Direct Soccer. Are you a base layer believer? Let us know. Join the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
