With the release of the new generation adidas 11Pro adiPURE Samba football boots we're taking a look back at all five previous incarnations of the adiPURE to see how the collection has progressed. Starting from the very first model in 2007 right up to the current and sixth model launched this year.
The first adiPURE, launched in 2007, was the result of adidas taking inspiration from years of their history and heritage and combining that with modern technology and construction. Designed with two of the brand’s most famous heritage boots in mind, the Copa Mundial and World Cup, adidas introduced a classic looking boot with improved sole plates, comfort and durability.
The adiPURE boots were created with a super soft leather upper and a stripped back design for players who targeted comfort over any other aspect. The original adiPURE landed when the adidas 7406 range was discontinued and the first adiPURE was launched in a standard black and white colourway followed by brighter versions. The first generation Pure was worn by the then World Player of the Year Kaka, Frank Lampard & Xabi Alonso.
February 2009 saw the release of the second generation model. The adiPURE II landed with a new wrap-around combined tongue & ankle support, which featured the iconic adiPURE II script to the outside of the boot. This contrasting strip featured extra padding on the inside complimenting the boots' snug fit. Our favourite adiPURE for the record...
Just 7 months after the launch of the adiPURE II the adiPURE III arrived. Once again the boot was revealed in a classic black colourway with a touch more white than found on the previous two editions. The adiPURE III featured a stand-out white raised heel cap for additional stability and comfort and maintained the key core aspects of the Pure series - materials, craftsmanship and design.
The 2010 world Cup in South Africa saw the adiPURE, along with the Predator and F50 taking on a black/yellow design for the tournament after also launching in a limited edition Gold colourway.
December 2010 marked the arrival of the adiPURE IV and in turn the lightest adiPURE yet, weighing 35g lighter than its predecessor at 280g. The most striking change on the redesigned K-leather upper was the repositioning of the famous three stripes from the rear to the front, enhancing the classic retro-look. The adiPURE IV was also released in a stripped back, lighter SL version, a feature that has continued into the newer models.
The most radical overhaul to the adiPURE series came with the release of the 11Pro in January 2012. Launched in white/energy featuring miCoach technology and placed on a SprintFrame found on the F50 the 11Pro was a revolutionary checkpoint for the adiPURE range. Kangaroo leather was replaced by Taurus leather as the 11Pro moved further away from the original adiPURE's roots whilst maintaining heritage characteristics.
The second generation 11Pro landed as part of the Samba collection as adidas kicked off their countdown to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. The current model has come along way visually from the original adiPURE but is still firmly classed as the brand's heritage silo. The latest model features the text '11Pro' wrapped around the heel of the boot and loses the miCoach cell found on the previous editions as the boot takes a step back to its roots.
