Twenty-five years after premiering their first "Just Do It" campaign, Nike are back celebrating one of the world's most iconic slogans. Today they have released their second installment of the “Possibilities” series. The video is is a celebration of woman athletes - but that didn't stop Gerard Piqué making a brief appearance.
Launched in 1988, Nike's first "Just Do It" commercial featured 80-year-old Walt Stack - an icon of the San Francisco running community. A quarter of a century on and Nike are celebrating "Just Do It" with a series of new TV spots aimed to inspire viewers to get off their backsides and push their physical limits.
The latest video is a follow up to the first film of the series that featured an all-star cast of athletes and guest stars including LeBron James, Serena Williams, Gerard Pique and actor Chris Pine. Nike enlisted the help of commercial experts Wieden & Kennedy and MJZ director Nicolai Fugslig (the guy responsible for Sony's bouncing ball advert) to take the reigns of the commercial.
"For 25 years, we’ve been inspiring people to Just Do It,” comments Davide Grasso, Nike Global Chief Marketing Officer. “With ‘Possibilities’ we’re taking 'Just Do It' to a whole new place, showing people a new way to set goals and think about their own athletic potential, then helping them to achieve those goals through products, services and inspiration.”
The new campaign is a world apart from Nike's original "Just Do It" video - a commercial featuring 80-year-old Walk Stack shown jogging across the Golden Gate Bridge. Since then Nike's famous three words have become the world's most iconic advertising slogan.
Nike 'Just Do It - Possibilities' challenges audiences to push their limits and strive to reach new goals with the Nike+ ecosystem. Viewers can explore their own 'Possibilities' through activations, including Nike+ Running and NikeFuel challenges. Join the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
