The two biggest boot releases of the summer are undoubtedly the Nitrocharge and HyperVenom. Nike and adidas each launched a brand new silo, which have had players contemplating a switch and with the season just weeks away we thought we’d have a re-cap to determine the newcomer with the biggest impact.
We’ve followed both boots from the very first prototypes through to the full launches. The two new silos will be all over Europe when the 2013/14 season kicks off but which blockbuster release has reeled you in and which has made the biggest splash this summer?
Two shiney new spanners have been thrown into works, mixing the game right up in terms of selecting your new boots. Both come with a clear mission statement. The Nitrocharge, according to adidas, is directed at the team’s ‘engine’, the box-to-box midfielder, whilst Nike have dubbed the HyperVenom as ‘a new breed of attack’ aimed at up and coming attacking players.
Both boots will be real contenders next season. Pick-up wise, we're tipping more players to wear the Nitrocharge due to their wider appeal across the pitch but it's the HyperVenom that's arguably created more of a buzz. The HyperVenom targets a more specific player; the creative attacker. Attacking is exciting - you get more excited about your team signing a striker than a defender.
The Nitrocharge was launched towards the end of last season and adidas invited us to the filming of the official trailer at the Olympic Stadium in Barcelona. Dani Alves, Javi Martinez and Daniele De Rossi were the lead faces of the new silo and featured in a crazy video centred around energy.
A top boot and concept but the on pitch player support was originally relatively weak, the brands high profile players stayed in the Predator and goals were few and far between. We reckon that was down to the timing of the launch - players were into the last few games of the season and a boot switch would have been a gamble. But now with a full pre-season under players belts we're expecting the Nitrocharge to have a huge uptake next season.
Nike’s timing of the HyperVenom launch was perfect, all eyes were on Neymar with his move to Barcelona and the Swoosh decided to make him their lead asset for the new silo - Neymar epitomises the 'new breed of attack' tagline - young, quick and devastatingly skillful. Joined by Ibrahimovic, Higuain, Isco and Alexis Sanchez the HyperVenom packs a deadly squad.
The stage was set for the HyperVenom's debut. England vs Brazil. Rooney vs Neymar. Two Nike teams, each featuring their star Nike player with Rooney putting the icing on the HyperVenom cake by scoring a brilliant golazo.
Both the HyperVenom and Nitrocharge have now been launched in three colourways and we've put them together to see which trio you're leaning towards. Both boots have been given eccentric colourways as well as a more toned down vibe for players looking for a more low key affair.
Nike and adidas' new silos have to be deemed as successes, two spectacular launches and two game changing boots. If you're looking to lace up in either new silo for the new season you've got three choices for each boot, no more colourways will be released before the season kicks off. Both brands have placed their cards on the table, the choice is yours? HyperVenom or Nitrocharge?
