Arsenal have revealed their new Nike away shirt for the 2013/14 season. The traditional yellow returns to the Gunners away strip taking inspiration from the kit the famous 2003/4 invincible squad wore a decade ago...
Nike's latest shirt for Wenger's men could well be the best looking yet. A classic royal blue collar with yellow trim sits at the top of three yellow buttons to match the cuffs and the blue Nike swoosh and Fly Emirates sponsor are the finishing touches on the dominant yellow base.
The first ever yellow Arsenal away kit was worn in 1969 and more recently the North London club have worn yellow on their Premier League travels in the 08/09 and 10/11 seasons after experimenting with other colours, such as last year's purple colour drop. It's based on the Invincible's kit but it'll take more than that to turn Ramsey into Vieira and Giroud into Bergkamp.
The new campaign will be a big season for Arsenal with some Gooners seeing it as chance to put together a serious attempt at winning the league due to all the changes at other top clubs. It's important for Arsenal to get off to a good start, especially if United, City and Chelsea are slow to gel under their new managers. Arsenal's first away game of the season is at Craven Cottage against Fulham, a week after hosting Villa at the Emirates.
“The kit looks and feels great. Arsenal is synonymous with yellow and blue and I think this new design fuses that tradition with a modern twist. I can’t wait to get out on the pitch and wear it,” said winger Theo Walcott.
The new away shorts are blue, and the socks feature the traditional Arsenal hoop sock design in blue and yellow. The club was the first to wear socks featuring hoops in the 1930's under the innovative stewardship of manager Herbert Chapman.
