It's been a while since we've seen a new Mercurial land that wasn't a limited edition release. The Mercurial may have recently been over shadowed by the latest member of the Nike family – The HyperVenom, but the swoosh have dished out a new summer paint job to their established big hitter for the off-season...
It's the time of the year when brands lay their cards on the table ahead of the pre-season rush and Nike have given all of their silos a lick of paint ready for the 2013/14 campaign. A couple of weeks have passed since the end of the season and players are already starting to eye up their new boots to return to training in.
The new Volt/Black/Citrus colourway is a typical vibrant Mercurial release and an almost exact replica of Barcelona's away shirt last season. The fading colour trend on the Vapor IX continues with the heel dipped in citrus blending into volt towards the toe of the boot. A black swoosh features boldly on the outsole of the boot creating a sharp finish on the flash backdrop.
Nike backed the HyperVenom with huge stakes, massively successful launch event, cutting edge innovation and a new select squad of players, some of which have jumped ship from the Mercurial to join the new breed of attack. The HyperVenom is all about agility with its split-toe plate and Nike Skin whereas the Mercurial is still the daddy for players looking for maximum acceleration.
With the fixtures thinning out over Europe you may have to keep an eye out during the Confederations Cup or MLS for your first glimpse of the latest Vapor release on pitch, failing that you should start to see them in action when pros return to their clubs for pre-season.
The Mercurial gives you the platform to be at your fastest with Speed Control texture that wraps around the foot and lightweight sole plate. The days of blister causing Mercurials have gone and the Vapor IX now features more comfort for a softer feel without sacrificing weight. The Mercurial may have lost the likes of Neymar and Ibra but still boasts serious player support including Ronaldo, Hazard and Ribery.
The Volt/Black/Citrus Mercurial Vapor IX will be available to pre-order from selected stockists including Pro-Direct Soccer. Let us know what you think online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
