Nike's most flexible franchise expands for Spring 2013 with a new line of free-moving shoes. A series that kicked off in 2004, the Nike Free family has evolved into a colossal success, becoming far more than just a running shoe. Runner, footballer, no matter what your sport, the power of the Nike Free means they appeal to every type of athelte.
Nike Free has become an enormous division at Nike. Its success as an initial running shoe has seen it cross-categorise as part of the Nike Sportswear, Nike Training and Nike Basketball lineups. For Spring 2013, Nike have introduced a fresh line of Free updates - the Nike Free 5.0, Nike Free 4.0 and Nike Free 3.0.
The three Nike Free shoes are designed with cushioning variations depending on which suits your purpose best. Nike Running footwear designer Rob Williams explains; "The lower the number, the more natural the ride, the more lower to the ground you are, the more your foot is working to really grasp the ground and move naturally."
Each Nike Free - the 3.0, 4.0 and 5.0 - brings unique elements to the table. Williams adds; "A 3.0 would be a very minimal shoe which still has cushioning. A 5.0 would be a shoe that has more cushioning, much like a normal shoe."
There's been a huge uptake on the football scene, with players using the Free as a fitness training shoe and a casual answer to their off-pitch style. The Nike Free 5.0 is built for the hours spent preparing for the 90 minutes. Designed as a dynamic barefoot runner for all athletes, the 5.0 caters to all conditions and training needs with a generously cushioned platform for added security and comfort.
Bright colours have proven an easy fit with the Nike Free family. But for this seasons 4.0, it's a different story. The Nike Free 4.0 sits in the middle of the Free range with a moderate amount of cushioning from a fused Phylite midsole. Ventilation is provided by mesh midfoot panels and deep outsole flex grooves enhance flexibility.
The Nike 3.0 is built with a minimalist approach that targets the experienced barefoot runner. Designed to be distraction free and act like a second skin, the 3.0 has the least amount of cushioning in the Free range and features a snug inner sleeve with an ultra-lightweight fused Phylite midsole and deep flex grooves and diagonal cuts for flexibility.
Looking to knock some time off those 5k pre-season runs, or just looking for a new pair of kicks? The Nike Free collection offers some of the best off-field answers to football fitness and fashion. They are available to order now from Nike retailers including Pro-Direct Soccer.
