The Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII enters the Fall/Winter season in spectacular style. You've seen them on pitch and now it's time to officially unveil the Retro/Orange/Red colourway, featuring for the first time Nike's recently developed ACC technology. Take a look and let us know what you think.
The Retro/Orange/Red colourway has quickly spread across Europe with the majority of Nike's Mercurial athletes wasting no time in adopting the boots – expect this to be one of Nike's most successful Vapor VIII boots as we head into the holiday season.
Nike revert back to the same suede upper as featured on the Mango/Grey launch boot. In a significant move, Nike's four silo break-down has been coated with All Conditions Control (ACC) technology which allows the boot's surface to maintain the same level of friction, touch and control on the ball in wet and dry conditions.
The ACC benefit is created by a special treatment during the development of the upper materials to deliver a consistent feel on the ball at all times. Its aim is to eliminate the difficulties that come with receiving and passing the ball in wet conditions.
Nike's All Conditions Control ensures the surface of the upper delivers consistent friction between boot and ball in wet weather conditions, allowing the player an assured touch similar to the feel of the ball in dry conditions.
The Retro/Orange/Red Vapor VIII colourway is Nike's brightest yet. Since the European Championships, Nike have struggled to get their star players out of the popular Clash collection – the 'Black-Pack' didn't experience a high player uptake. But with new designs across each silo, we'll now be seeing a fresh spread of Nike colourways on the feet of Europe's top professionals.
The Nike Vapor VIII totally re-engineered the Mercurial boot for explosive speed. A sleeker and closer feel is achieved by a special toe-box reinforcer, increasing comfort around the toe. Nike's new Anatomic Last takes the fit of the boot to a new level of support and stability, enhanced by a softer heel counter maximising both comfort and fit.
This colourway will be Nike's lead Mercurial for the remaining months of 2012. Available to pre-order now, the Retro/Orange/Red Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII will retail worldwide for around £155 GBP / $230 USD / €185 EURO (FG) - a little steeper than the standard non-ACC editions.
