After the eye-catching Mango and Clash releases, Nike have toned down their new Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII football boots. But they couldn't resist some slight eccentricity, and have called the new colourway Seaweed! But with the combination of Volt it's a nice subtle off-black colour, so take a look and let us know what you think... The colour combo might not divide boot fans quite like the previous releases, but it does sound odd saying players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Eden Hazard will be sporting Seaweed on their football boots! But of course in all seriousness, Nike are continuing to deliver one of the most technically advanced and material efficient speed boots to their athletes.
For the 2012/13 season the Mercurial Vapor takes performance innovation to the next level with a totally re-engineered boot built for explosive speed. Nike have unveiled a boot with even better performance attributes and a new synthetic upper material. A series that has been at the pinnacle of the game for over a decade returns with ground breaking innovation and cutting edge technology.
Talking visuals, the outside of the Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII hosts a smaller Swoosh to the previous Vapor, however no brand identity is lost as the striking new design features a distinctive Swoosh on the instep of the boot in the stand-out Volt colour, as well as a visual signature on the heel.
A sleeker and closer feel is achieved by a special toe-box reinforcer, increasing comfort around the toe. The new Vapor also features the same upper material as featured on the Clash Collection boots. Treated to be softer, more comfortable and a leather-like synthetic which offers great touch and control properties in both wet and dry conditions.
The Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII soccer cleats have been redesigned to create a snug upper while locking down the foot and preventing unwanted movement, Nike's new Anatomic Last takes the fit of the boot to a new level of support and stability. This effect is enhanced by a more minimalist and softer heel counter, maximizing both comfort and fit.
The new Nike Mercurial Vapor 8 football boots deliver the ultimate in fit, touch and traction. A combination that has established the Mercurial as one of the greatest speed boots of all time. Nike recognise the modern game is played on a fine line and that one slip could be the difference between success and failure - traction is everything.
The Seaweed/Volt/Red colourway will be available in both an FG plate, and Nike's newly introduced SG Pro-Plate. With the heel studs allowing for a quick release from the turf and the asymmetric design of the stud configuration delivering an explosive start. Sharper blades have been introduced to the Nike Vapor 8 allowing for game changing acceleration.
You will be able to pre-order your pair of the new Seaweed/Volt/Challenge Red Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII football boots from July 25th from selected retailers, with the boots expected to ship on August 2nd. The new Vapor will retail worldwide for around £150 GBP / $220 USD / €180 EURO if you're after firm ground, or £160 GBP / $230 USD / €195 EURO if you want the boots fitted with the soft ground plate.
