It's that time of the week again when we go digging into our SoccerBible boot vault. This week we've pulled out a real gem with the Nike Mercurial Vapor III Italy boots! These boots don't see the light of day too often here at SoccerBible but we thought we'd bring them back to life for our SoccerBible community...
These rare Italy Gold/Blue Nike Vapor III boots were made in celebration of Italy becoming world champions in 2006 after beating France in the final. Nike only produced 250 pairs of these ‘4 star Gold collectors editions’. If you managed to get your hands on these back in 2006, then count yourself lucky! We're guessing Italian fans snapped them up quickly as a special memorabilia piece.
The boot features many unique aspects of manufacture including a bespoke Italian flagged tongue, a 4 star graphic representing each one of Italy’s World Cup victories and a decorative insole, all highlighting Italy’s route to victory in the 2006 World Cup.
Just by looking at this previous Vapor model, you realise how much the Mercurial range has changed and evolved over the years. Released back in 2006, the Nike Vapor III boots were the third generation Mercurial boots from Nike and weighed less than 200g. The MVIII was made faster and more flexible than all previous Nike Vapor Mercurial models. Nike introduced their new ‘Speed Last’, which was designed to contour the anatomic curves of the foot for added comfort and maximum speed advantage.
There's something special about a gold pair of boots as they don't come along too often. We wan't to know if any of our SoccerBible community landed a pair of these Nike Vapor III Italy boots!
Stay tuned to the SoccerBible as we reveal even more soccer cleats from the Boot Vault, showcasing the best retro, classic and once forgotten boots and bringing them back to life!
