After months of player testing and tweaking with finishing touches, Mizuno have unveiled their third generation Wave Ignitus in a rascal Bolt/Black/Blue/Red paint job. Two years since the second Ignitus was revealed the Ignitus 3 has been a project that has cut no corners and Mizuno are confident that they've nailed it...
We've spoken to Southampton defender Maya Yoshida about his blacked out versions and we've seen Keisuke Honda training in a bespoke white pair but now Mizuno have finally lifted the lid on their launch colourway of the Wave Ignitus 3 boots which are accompanied by a slightly more toned down Silver/Black/Autumn Glory paint job.
The third generation Ignitus is engineered by Mizuno with a redesigned and improved Mukaiten panel, which Mizuno inform us produces even deadlier 'non spin' movement, reducing the rotation of the ball to make dead-ball situations more lethal, the idea being that keepers find the flight of the ball difficult to judge so you can wheel off celebrating while the man in the sticks blames modern footballs/his wall/the wind.
Mizuno have placed a premium lightweight synthetic upper on the Ignitus 3 making it the lightest Ignitus to date. In typical Japanese style the upper is not short of technology, the Tatekaiten vamp panel on the top of the foot is designed to increase top spin and the Yokokaiten panel on the in-step is more rigid creating extra-side spin and accuracy, similar in theory to Predator and in looks to the Nike T90 Laser II.
The heel of the boot has also undergone maintenance to deliver added cushioning and stability while the brand new outsole maximises traction and minimises stud pressure on firm ground. The mesh tongue has gone from the second Ignitus and has been replaced with a synthetic version which is designed to avoid any slipping down the boot.
The new colourway is definitely out there, it won't match up with many kits but it will stand out on pitch. For fans of the Ignitus that aren't keen on the loud colour comb's, we've already seen how slick the blackouts of these boots look so you shouldn't be put off yet, we reckon Mizuno have got a few crowd pleasing paint jobs tucked away in the locker. If you love a bit of tech on your boots then the Ignitus 3 will be right up your street.
The new Bolt/Black/Blue/Red Mizuno Wave Ignitus 3 football boots are available to pre-order now at selected online retailers including Pro-Direct Soccer. What do you think of the launch colourway? Join the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
