One of Japan's finest boot exports – the Mizuno Wave Ignitus 2 – only gets a new paint job once in a blue moon. But when they do, it's often in impressive style. Once again, the team at Mizuno have delivered a fresh update to the Ignitus line.
Designed in a clean Pearl/Blue/Black combo, the latest Mizuno Wave Ignitus 2 gets the thumbs-up from us. The Ignitus has quickly become one of the Japanese brands staple silos, with strong performance attributes often packaged in a tasty colourway.
Originally introduced in 2010, the Wave Ignitus cleats are now in their second generation, but much of the original innovation remains. A combination of natural and synthetic materials delivers a comfortable and powerful performance on pitch, with the talisman being Japanese star Keisuke Honda.
As the name suggests, when striking the ball you're igniting a reaction between the boot and ball. Mizuno have developed their Mukaiten panel through the Bio Vamps, to feature an aggressive design for generating increased friction and control at ball contact, integrated into the lacing system to enlarge the striking area.
Mizuno continue their pedigree of quality leather uppers, a precedent set out by their famed Morelia range. The use of premium natural material across the Ignitus is one that distinguishes it from the likes of the adidas Predator, and is one of it's strongest assets. The k-leather provides a luxurious, comfortable feel with soft padding.
To deliver lightweight speed traction, Mizuno use a unique outsole incorporating Wave technology, a tech borrowed from their running department. The Wave tech improves cushioning and stability in the outsole which combined with the bladed stud configuration delivers unrivalled traction.
The Pearl/Blue/Black versions are a December release and will retail worldwide for around £120 GBP / $190 USD / €185 EURO.
