It's time to showcase a boot and brand that don't quite enjoy the same coverage as other brands. However, that's not a reflection on their products, because in Joma's own words the Granada football boots are one of the best they've ever created, so let's take a look...
The Granada football boots are one of Joma's top-end boots, and they're very confident in their 2011 edition saying they “could be the best boot we ever made”. To back up this claim, in 2010 the Granada was their best selling boot world wide. So what are your initial reactions? The Joma Granada football boots have been designed to compete directly with the Copa Mundial, taking the fight to the established leather touch and heritage boots. The Granada actually received a complete design overhaul last year, and in another bold claim from Joma “we wanted to refine it just a little bit but we couldn’t. There is nothing to fix. It performs exactly as desired and our customers are raving about it.”
The Granada certainly ticks the boxes for it's boot category. Made using top quality kangaroo leather that has been selected due to its high fibre content (greater number of interior fibres per mm). It also features double-stitching with nylon thread that has 1800 x 1400 K/Nw resistance, so you know the Granada is a durable boot.
Visually the Granada is quite a standard looking boot, with a clean white leather upper, interrupted only by stitching patterns to retain boot. The leather tongue improves the striking area and is held down by hook and loop fastening. For 2011, Joma have added a splash of colour, and unsurprisingly for the Spanish company that colour is yellow, which also adorns the black versions.
The Joma Granada soccer shoes we've shown here are actually the hard ground versions, designed primarily for artificial surfaces. But because of the unique sole-plate we couldn't help but show these versions. Not your normal stud configuration, the cross-hair finish to the stud actually preserves their lifespan as it's softer and takes the blow of hitting the ground better.
To many boot fans Joma are a relatively unknown brand, but what you may not realise is they've been producing quality football boots for over 40 years! Established in 1965 in Portillo de Toledo, Joma have grown to become the largest football gear manufacturer in Spain. When you consider that's the home of the World and European Champions, then they must know a thing or two about what a footballer needs to perform!
Joma's pedigree has seen a number of quality players choosing their products, although not surprisingly they're mostly Spanish. In the late 1980's Joma endorsed Real Madrid players Martin Vasquez and Butragueno, and since then their portfolio of players has included Fernando Morientes, Frederic Kanoute, Pepe Reina, Ivan Helguera and Pablo Hernandez.
Since their humble beginning in 1965 with just 8 employees, Joma's reputation has grown thanks to their use of some of the world's finest premium grade leather. These new White/Yellow Joma Granada football boots are available in both hard and firm ground versions from late July/early August, and at around £80 GBP / $130 USD / €95 EURO they're coming in to compete directly with their rivals.
