In October 2015 adidas unveiled their 'Futurecraft Initiative' with a 3D-printed shoe sole that could be tailored to the exact contours of the wearer's feet. Just under a year later the Three Stripes are ready to land their breakthrough technology on the feet of their most successful sponsored Olympians in Brazil and the laces will come in either gold, silver or bronze to reflect the athlete's podium achievement.

You can bet that the first 3D-printed football boot is already being discussed at adidas HQ and time will tell whether it can be made fit for purpose.
