Leo Messi slipped into his exclusive F50 as Barcelona beat Celta Vigo 3-0. Released to celebrate the four time Ballon d'Or winner breaking Paulino Alcantara's all time goal scoring record of 369 goals for Barca, just 370 pairs were released. The man himself made a one off appearance in his on Wednesday night, and scored in them, obviously.
Each of the 370 special edition pairs are uniquely labelled #001 - #370 to represent each of Leo's goals along the way. Messi's own pair is number 370, celebrating his historic goal against Osasuna, which saw him become the club's leading ever goal scorer at just 26 years old. Bit of a reality check there.
Alcantara's record had stood since 1927 but was overtaken by Messi when he nothced a hat trick on Sunday 16th March against Osasuna. The colours on the limited edition F50 are inspired by the famous red and blue of the Barcelona kit and each individual boot features Messi's custom personalisation. His squad number 10, the name and date of birth of his son 'Thiago' and a subtle Argentinian flag on the heel, above the trademark Messi logo.
Upon breaking the record, Messi said: "When I was growing up I always dreamt of a career as a footballer. Each goal I have scored has been special in its own way. I never would have broken the record without my teammates. Being the all-time top goal-scorer for such an amazing club is a true honour. I would like to thank adidas for the fact that they have produced these beautiful boots to celebrate this new record".
