The SL version of the 11Pro usually arrives with a distinctly different appearance to the standard editions but this time adidas have served up an almost identically visual design to the current 11Pro colourway. Weighing in at just 185g the 11Pro is stripped back to offer an ultralight feel without sacrificing a leather touch.
By placing a premium K-leather upper on top of the light SprintFrame outsole used on the adizero F50, adidas have created the perfect blend of comfort and lightweight. The 11Pro SL takes on the same paint job as the current black/white/slime drop, offering players a simple choice that isn't influenced by visual design but by technology and performance.
This 11Pro SL is the first super light version since the 11Pro series was reshaped, redesigned and launched as part of the adidas Samba Pack to celebrate the countdown to the World Cup this summer. As well as incorporating the SprintFrame, weight is further reduced by using a thinner memory foam leather tongue.
Towards the middle and the heel of the boot the kangaroo leather is replaced by adidas Sprint Skin material, the same material that us found on the current Predator LZ model. A highly durable material that reduce weight to a minimum. The standard 11Pro tips the scales at 238g, meaning adidas have shaved off 58g of excess materials to reach the SL's 180g benchmark.
Finished with black laces, the SL adopts a sleeker, more streamline effect than the standard issues. For us, the 11Pro SL series is one of the most underrated boot collections on the market, it ticks the comfort, leather and lightweight boxes, making it in many ways, the ideal football boot. The advancements do come at a price with the 11Pro SL retailing for £175 GBP, approx £50 GBP more than the standard issues.
The new black/white/slime adidas 11Pro SL football boots are available from selected stockists including Pro-Direct Soccer. What do you think of the SL editions? Let us know. Join the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
