Leo Messi slipped into his new signature F50 as Barcelona held a training session at the Etihad last night. Ahead of the Champions League clash with Manchester City tonight Messi and the rest of the Barca players got a feel for the surface and surroundings and in turn gave fans a first look at the new boot on pitch.
The latest addition to the Messi line is arguably the most eye-catching yet, a unique boot for a unique player that uses all four colours that featured on the adidas Samba pack. Messi has once again added his own specifications to the boot altering them slightly from the retail versions. As with all of his F50's, Messi has opted for a leather stitched upper, which is visible in between the famous Three Stripes.
Extra lace holes have been added for a tighter, closer fit and the boot is finished off with Messi's squad number (10), Argentinian flag, his son's name THiAGO (in the same font as the MESSi text on the tongue, which uses a lower case 'i') and Thiago's date of birth - 02/11/12.
The boots were supplied by adidas in celebration of Messi setting another record - his brace against Vallecano at the weekend saw him become the third highest goalscorer in La Liga history, moving level Raul on 228 goals. Messi will lace-up in the new design tonight and will stay in them for the remainder of the European season before being given a bespoke World Cup model in time for Brazil.
Tonight's Champions League fixtures will also see the introduction of the newly designed adidas Finale Lisbon UCL Matchball, which will be used throughout the knockout stages including the final at the Estadio da Luz on 24th May.
