As Leo Messi's signature adidas boot collection becomes a trio we're putting all three of his adizero designs together to see how each of one of football's most vibrant and exclusive boot collections stack up against each other.
Since the introduction of Messi's trademark logo adidas have supplied the Barcelona striker with a hat trick of graphically gripping designs that reflect the player's personality on and off the pitch. As Messi has continued to smash records and lift trophies adidas have continued to acknowledge his incredible achievements by creating unique football boots for a truly unique footballer.
Messi joined an elite group of adidas athletes, including David Beckham and Derrick Rose, when his first signature boot was launched in February 2013 and in turn established himself in the brand's hall of fame. The red/white design was intended to reflect Messi’s footballing philosophy and included the Messi signature logo for the first time.
Red, being Messi’s favourite colour was chosen to represent the danger he poses on the pitch as well as his burning desire for the game. The clean white frame of the boot symbolised lightness, with speed-inspired graphics demonstrating his pace. A single red stud on the sole plate in amongst 10 white studs represents Messi alongside his teammates and how he sees himself as being only as strong as the team around him.
Four months after Messi's debut signature adizero F50 a second design landed. The Argentine kicked off the 2013/14 season wearing an exclusive blend of turbo, purple and white, with the graphic elements taking inspiration from strokes of light - a concept born from Messi's ability to "light up the pitch".
Designed in line with the famous red and blue of Barcelona the second generation Messi exclusive adizero once again featured the current Ballon d'Or holders trademark logo on the heel and 'Messi' lettering on the instep of the boot.
As Messi steps out in his latest signature adidas boot in the Champions League tonight the collection officially grows to a trio of designs and the current visuals are arguably the most eccentric yet. With Messi still hammering down records and Argentina tipped by many for World Cup success this year the Messi F50 collection isn't expected to remain a trio for long.
