Continuing their World Cup kit roll out adidas have unveiled the new German National Team away kit for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. For the first time the Germans will play in black & red horizontal striped shirts as they look to mount a charge at removing Spain from their throne.
Fine lines are incorporated in the jersey's red horizontal stripes. "The lines stand for team spirit and integration on the pitch", says Jürgen Rank, Chief Designer for football apparel at adidas. "The jersey is a strong statement underlining the lifestyle of fashion-conscious young people in Germany, their openness and their unconventional attitude." Obviously.
If you're thinking of just wearing the new away strip on pitch then think again, the press release for the kit states, and we quote "With its rugby collar, it also makes a stylish outfit for beach parties and clubs." Well that's Saturday nights outfit sorted then. What was that they were saying about fashion-conscious young people in Germany?
Özil, Schweinsteiger, Müller & Co. will complete their new kit with black shorts and black socks. Arsenal midfielder Mesut Özil said: "The new jersey looks great and reminds me of Flamengo Rio de Janeiro's kit – that is sure to bring us luck for the World Cup in Brazil."
The new jersey will feature on pitch for the first time when Germany face Chile in a pre-World Cup friendly in Stuttgart on March 5th. In all seriousness, this is up there with the best looking World Cup kits we've seen so far. Another tidy strip to go alongside their equally as classy home kit.
The new adidas Germany away kit is available from selected retailers including Pro-Direct Soccer. What do you think of the kit? Let us know. Join the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
