Robin van Persie marked his return from injury with a new custom pair of adidas adizero F50 boots and a goal. Making his first appearance since December the United striker was laced up in a pair of adidas adizero F50 Samba editions that featured his own, now trademark, modifications.
The Man United striker took just 6 minutes to get back amongst the goals as his side recorded a routine 2-0 win over Cardiff at Old Trafford. Van Persie has been out since the end of last year and the visit of the Bluebirds marked his first appearance in the new generation F50, and just like the previous model RVP has customised his boots with his tried and tested Predator adiPower soleplate.
We've already seen Leo Messi wear a bespoke pair of F50's this season and Robin Van Persie's unique boots feature a similar leather stitched upper to that of the Barca striker's. RVP has swapped the HybridTouch forefoot of the standard issues for a leather material that's stitched in the same way as his previous generation adizeros.
One of the only traits of the new F50 that Van Persie has left untouched is the SpeedFoil technology used across the rear quarter of the boot - a unique composite material that is highly durable and makes the boots super-lightweight. From a distance it looks as if he's wearing a standard F50 but on closer inspection the prominent adiPower heel counter gives the game away. United's no.20 knows what he likes and he's sticking with it.
Van Persie's love affair with the adiPower started during his Arsenal days in 2011 and the Dutchman remained in the adiPower when adidas launched the Predator LZ. Van Perise had stumbled across his ideal boot and it took some shifting to get him out of them. When adidas finally did persuade him out of the adiPower and into the F50 RVP met them half way by combing his preferred adiPower with a modified F50 upper.
