The Bundesliga returned from its Winter break at the weekend with a number of games using the brand new adidas Torfabrik hi-vis match-ball. The winter colour up is designed for maximum visibility and will begin to appear on German pitches more frequently throughout the months of January and February.
The Premier League, Serie A and La Liga all use a hi-vis version of the Nike Incyte ball but the Bundesliga opts to stay loyal to their fellow countrymen and use the Three Striped brand. As well as supplying to the German league adidas are also the official ball supplier to the Champions League, Europa League and World Cup and the Torfabrik is tested to the brand's own high standards as well as being FIFA approved.
The 2013/14 campaign is the fourth season in which the Torfabrik ball has been used in the Bundesliga. The movement of the ball is stable in flight in all weather conditions and is deemed by many in Deutschland as the perfect football, which explains why it has remained as the league's official match-ball for so long.
The new adidas Torfabrik ball featured for the first time during Werder Bremen's 0-0 stalemate with Eintracht Braunschweig on Saturday and will continue to be used during more challenging winter conditions including snow and heavy rain. The ball holds the Bundesliga logo on a circular graphic similar to the pattern found on the standard Torfabrik.
The adidas Torfabrik hi-vis match ball is available now from select online stockists including Pro-Direct Soccer. What do you think of the ball? Let us know. Join the conversation online, on Twitter and on Facebook.
